President Prabowo Subianto of Indonesia received the prestigious Darjah Kerabat Johor Yang Amat Dihormati from the Sultanate of Johor, Malaysia, on Monday, January 27, 2025. The honor was conferred by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Sultan Iskandar in a solemn ceremony.

Prabowo expressed his gratitude for the distinction, calling it a great honor. Notably, the only other Indonesian president to have received this award was the late President Soeharto, who was also Prabowo's former father-in-law.

“I feel deeply honored to be received by His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, to witness a grand military ceremony, and to be awarded the highest honor from the Sultanate of Johor—the Darjah Kerabat Johor,” Prabowo remarked, as quoted from Bernama TV's YouTube channel.

In a lighter moment during the ceremony, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim quipped, “It’s higher than Datuk Sri,” eliciting laughter from Prabowo and the audience.

Prabowo emphasized that this recognition symbolizes the close bond between him and Malaysia. He revealed that his relationship with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong spans more than 45 years.

“Our relationship dates back to when we were young, studying together in the United States. This long-standing bond adds an emotional dimension to my connection with Malaysia,” he said.

Reflecting on his role as President, Prabowo acknowledged the increased formalities that accompany his visits to Malaysia. “It’s not as easy as before. Protocols are stricter now, and there’s always a lot of security. I apologize if this makes things more challenging for the officials,” he added with a smile.

Prabowo also highlighted the shared interests and cultural ties between Indonesia and Malaysia. Both nations, as founding members of ASEAN, share deep-rooted ethnic and familial connections.

“Many Malaysian leaders still have family in Indonesia. This commonality should foster a unique and special relationship between the two countries. There must be a special relationship between Malaysia and Indonesia,” he concluded.
